Åre

The alpine heart of Scandinavia

Åre is Northern Europe’s largest ski resort – a place where a long tourism history meets a vibrant international atmosphere. In Åre, three unique ski areas await: Björnen, Åre Village, and Duved/Tegefjäll, which together offer world-class alpine skiing.

When the snow melts, the valley transforms into a hub for hiking, cycling, and adventurous activities. Discover sights such as the mighty Tännforsen waterfall, the historic Fröå Mine, and local favorites like Åre Chocolate Factory. With an outstanding range of restaurants and international events such as Alpine World Cup races and the Åre Autumn Market, the destination offers both quality of life and a distinctly international vibe.

Åre Municipality offers a remarkable variety of nature, living environments, and experiences – from world-class downhill skiing to miles of cross-country trails and hiking routes through vast mountain landscapes. Here, Sámi cultural landscapes and reindeer grazing lands meet dramatic mountain environments and fertile farming regions. In the south you’ll find gems such as Vålådalen, Trillevallen, and Edsåsdalen; in the west, the classic Jämtland Triangle with the STF mountain hut system and Storlien. To the north lies the Kall region with the Skäcker Mountains, and to the east the Bydalen Mountains and the Storsjö countryside.

Åre is easy to reach by car, by train directly to the station, or by air via Åre Östersund Airport or Trondheim Værnes Airport.

Åre – an international mountain destination all year round.
