There are no large ski resort along the Wilderness Road (Vildmarksvägen in Swedish), only small cozy villages filled with friendly souls who are happy to welcome you with open arms. Visit Norråker and experience winter life in the countryside or join for a multi-day trip through white expanses with Nordic Husky Farm. Pamper yourself and your loved one at the cozy hotel in Stora Blåsjön or at the spa at STF Björkvattnet. In Stora Blåsjön you will also find one of the region’s longest alpine ski slopes, 3.5 km long. Also unique is Frostviken’s freeride area for snowmobiles, where you can roam freely in large areas with a day pass.
The entire Wilderness Road, including the section over Stekenjokk, is open during the bare ground period between June 6th and October 15th. During the winter you can drive to the mountain plateau Stekenjokk on the Jämtland side as far as to Stora Blåsjön and a little further to the barrier. From the Vilhelmina side you can drive to Klimpfjäll and a little further where there is another barrier. It is the orange-red section over Stekenjokk on the map that is closed in winter, due to the risk of snow drifts.
