The region Jämtland Härjedalen is as big as the Netherlands and the best way to discover as much as possible during a holiday is to make a tour.
A road trip in this part of Sweden can include everything from majestic mountains, fast-paced bike rides, scouting for the Storsjö beast (Storsjöodjuret) to picturesque flea markets and time travel in the regional living museum Jamtli.
Plan a road trip to the northern part of Jämtland Härjedalen to get a mountain hike on four wheels through a Sami cultural landscape around the Wilderness route (Vildmarksvägen). Or, take the road towards the mountain destinations of the south part, Härjedalen, with some of the finest hiking and cycling trails. For those of you who prefer to travel without a car, there is the option of a train ride across Mid Sweden to the residence city of the region, Östersund, and the mountain destinations of Åre and Storlien. If you want, you can choose to go further across the border to Norway for a round trip by train or car.
