Meet Fia Gulliksson – food ambassador, CEO/founder of Food In Action PR and Dr.h.c in crEATive Gastronomy. There are a lot of titles one can give Fia Gulliksson, but more than anything she is a highly devoted food enthusiast with a great love for the creative art of gastronomy and the region of Jämtland Härjedalen. We asked Fia to give her thoughts on what makes Jämtland Härjedalen stand out as the perfect place to live and why the food scene here is something truly special. Here’s what she wrote.

Meet Fia Gulliksson  – Entrepreneur & Food Enthusiast

Are you a foodie or outdoor enthusiast – or maybe both? Jämtland Härjedalen may just be your paradise on earth, your gastronomic treasure trove. Its treasures and pleasures originate from the forests, the mountains, the people, lakes and villages as well as the beautiful little City of Östersund, at the heart of it all.

Almost every village in this region is home to skilled culinary artisans and small-scale farmers who, with a light touch, create the most amazing products and ingredients to perfect meals. Some products are incredibly innovative and inventive, while others are made using ancient methods and recipes that have been passed on from generation to generation.

Unique Conditions

How come foods from Jämtland Härjedalen tastes so good and what makes it so special? One secret is in the work of our forefathers and the large amount of enthusiasts in the region, but we must not forget the unique place we are in. The Gulf stream and our long summer nights open up for unique conditions for plants to grow. We’ve got the lowland agricultural landscape with rare minerals and the calcareous soil in combination with the highland cool summer nights.

For years and years knowledge has been passed from generation to generation about where to plant different crops. The curiosity among people of all ages is increasing while trying to find harmony. Our regional setting and our small scale artisan foods may just be the answer to being able to live in the present and stop chasing whatever it is we are all rushing for.

The Gastronomic Spirit in Jämtland Härjedalen

In many of our destinations there is a boom around creating new combinations of tastes where the old is mixed with the new influences from around the globe. There are restaurants that food enthusiasts flock to, eager to taste the most extreme form of Nordic cuisine, where the ingredients are foraged and the menu is based upon year-round self-sufficiency. It’s also possible to eat at home with local families; here you’ll find a gastronomic spirit, food, drink, and culinary experiences that have given the region an international reputation as an exciting and creative gastronomic region.
