Day trips around Vemdalen Mountain resort:
Funäsfjällen mountain resort – features the Härjedalen Mountain Museum, the Musk Ox Centre, and the Sami cultural park Lopme Laante. In Funäsfjällen, you can hike along selected “Gold Tours” (Guldturer) and cycle on well-maintained trails.
Lofsdalen mountain resort – if you want to try biking and hiking in a nearby resort. Excellent downhill trails for the family. Mountain biking trails in the mountains and hiking trails. Restaurants and cosy cabins.
East Härjedalen – go to Sveg to experience the Cineast Café with movie memorabilia and pastries to die for and discover the birthplace of the author Henning Mankell by walking in his footsteps. Visit Överhogdal for the excellent museum showcasing the unique viking tapestries found in the area.
How to get to Vemdalen
By car: Vemdalen is easy to reach by car, approx. 500 km from Stockholm, 660 km from Gothenburg, and 880 km from Malmö.
Train: Travel by train to Ljusdal or Östersund then continue by bus or taxi to Vemdalen. Tickets can be booked via SJ with final destination Vemdalen.
Bus: There are direct buses to Vemdalen from Östersund (2 h).
Flight: Fly to Åre Östersund Airport with onward transfer/car rental.
