Storsjöbadet, Östersund

Adventure pool for everyone in a playful mood with water slides, streams, caves and a tiled beach. Special children’s pool with smaller slide and fountain. Swimming pools for exercise swimming and swimming school. In the Relax section, lovely scents, temperature, humidity, lighting and decor ensure that you end up in balance and for those who want to enjoy themselves to the fullest, there is Aufgus. The outdoor pools are open for summer swimming under the open sky and make sure you bring a long a classic coffee thermos and some Swedish biscuits like Mariekex and juice served on a blanket on the grass lawns around the pools.
Storsjöbadet is located next to Östersund’s camping, Scandic Syd and Östersundstravet about 3 km from Östersund city centre.

Holiday Club adventure pool, Åre

Indoor children’s pools with fountain and water slide and adventure pool with streams and massage showers, water slide and outdoor pool with views of Lake Åre and Renfjället. Jamtli, Östersund

Open-air museum with actors during the summer that gives you the feeling of taking a trip back in time. Indoor exhibitions with historical collections from the Stone Age to the present, including the unique Överhogdalsbonaden from the Viking Age. Nationalmuseum Jamtli shows seasonal exhibitions with art objects from the Nationalmuseum Stockholm.
The three Museums in one – Jamtli is located just west of the center of Östersund.

Multichallenge, Östersund

One of Sweden’s largest indoor entertainment centers with the opportunity to challenge family and friends in Boda Borg’s tricky labyrinths, go-karts, laser hall, play area, climbing wall, mini golf, billiards and games. Multichallenge has a café and accommodation in the same building and is located just south of the city centre of Östersund.

Östersund Winter Park

The Winter Park is the activity arena for Östersund residents and all visitors during the winter and spring winter. Sun worshippers gather here along one of Sweden’s longest wooden benches in Badhusparken, skiers who don’t want to struggle with uphill and downhill runs but instead enjoy the view of the Oviksfjällen mountains, skaters on their way to or from Kungsgårdsviken 10 km from the city centre and walkers who enjoy walking on the ice with views in all directions. At the Winter Park there is also Storsjöodjuret Birger’s snow castle for all children, an ice skating rink that invites you to play and have fun, as well as sun loungers and barbecue facilities. If you forgot to pack a packed lunch, there is both a café and a kiosk where you can buy a sausage to grill.

Tännforsen, Åre

Sweden’s largest waterfall with a drop height of 37 meters and a width of 60 meters. There is a viewing platform and walking paths next to the rapids. Keep an eye out for the rare plants that thrive thanks to the humidity. In winter, the falls are transformed into a work of art made of ice. Tännforsen is located west of Åre and Duved on a turnoff from Skalstugevägen.

Ändsjöns Nature Reserve, Frösön

On Frösön and at a reasonable distance from Östersund’s city center, you will find Ändsjöns Nature Reserve with walking paths around the lake and places to watch all the birds that thrive in and by the shallow lake. Next to Ändsjön there is also a floodlit trail for running, hiking and skiing in the winter.

Hiking around Bynäset, Frösön

Hiking around Bynäset is a popular excursion for both Östersund residents and visitors. The loop around the shore of the isthmus is about 7 km long with many nice places for a picnic, swimming or just enjoying the waves that wash up against the beaches and the windswept trees. Park at the large parking lot with barbecue areas.

Härjedalens Fjällmuseum, Funäsfjällen

The museum shows beautiful and thought-provoking exhibitions from the life of the past in western Härjedalen for the Sami, mountain farmers and mill workers. Adjacent is the Fornminnesparken with buildings from the area. The Fjällmuseet is located in central Funäsdalen.

Döda Fallet, Ragundadalen

The Storforsen rapids were the terror of timber rafters and Magnus Huss was commissioned to make a canal alongside them for timber rafting. He succeeded too well and emptied an entire lake over a midsummer night in 1796. The rapids became completely silent and today you can walk along the spans and see giant cauldrons and other formations along the riverbed. Döda Fallet is located between Hammarstrand and Bispgården in Ragundadalen.

Strömsunds hembygdsgård

Buildings that show life in the past, including a Sami hut on the shore of Ströms Vattudal. Café with homemade bread and exhibitions of crafts from local people around Strömsund. Don’t miss the statue Jätten Jorm with his house on his nose at the entrance of the heritage area and see more of him in the movie Dunderklumpen. Strömsunds hembygdsgård is located at the bridgehead in Strömsund.

Wikners in Persåsen, Södra Storsjöbygden

Creative joy in every corner with furniture and artwork, a carpentry workshop, exhibitions, a shop, a restaurant and accommodation as well as conference rooms with a wood theme. The Wikner family has been running the facility together for 50 years. Wikners in Persåsen is located in Södra Storsjöbygden next to Fäbodvägen.

Frösö church, Östersund

One of Sweden’s most popular churches to get married in with a fantastic view of the Storsjöbygden and the Oviksfjällen mountains. The Frösö church is built on top of a sacrificial grove from the Viking Age near what was the center of Frösön, near Frösö Park, Sommarhagen and Frösö Golf Course.

Fröjas Oasen in Ås

A retail garden with an integrated café and world store within easy cycling distance west of Östersund city centre, in Krokom municipality. Fröjas Oasen in Ås is open every day including Christmas Eve!

Hällingsåfallet, Frostviken

The Hällingsåfallet waterfall cascades 42 metres down an 800 metre long canyon. Viewing platforms and bridges make it possible to see the falls from both sides. A hiking trail runs parallel to the canyon. Hällingsåfallet is located near Gäddede along Vildmarksvägen (The Wilderness road) through Strömsund municipality.

Culture Reserve Fröå mine, Åre

Copper ore was mined here in several rounds from the 18th to the 20th century. Today, there are renovated buildings from the mining era, including an impressive iron walkway over the slag heaps and a large water wheel protected in a house at Fröå gruva. Café and food service adjacent to the area as well as a multitude of hiking and winter skiing trails. Fröå mine is located at the foot of Åreskutan, just north of Åre Björnen and is one of two culture reserves in Jämtland Härjedalen.

Skärvångens village dairy, Krokom

At the dairy, around 30 different cheeses are made from both cow and goat milk. In the summer, the cheese buffet is laid out every day and there is the opportunity to make a study visit to the dairy to see the production. The shop has cheese varieties that do not always reach the grocery stores. Skärvångens village dairy is located northwest of Föllinge in the municipality of Krokom.

Teknikland, Östersund

A retro world for those who like military history, vehicles and old technology with a focus on ensuring that there are activities for children in all the exhibitions. Café and theme days. Teknikland is located in Ope just south of Östersund.

Thai pavilion, Ragundadalen

The Thai king Chulalongkorn visited Ragundadalen in 1897 and the Thai pavilion in the middle of a birch grove in Utanede, near Bispgården, was built in his memory. The pavilion is partially covered with gold leaf and gives an exotic impression. Restaurant with Thai food next to the pavilion.

Byhuset, Krokom

Café, art and interior design shop on a farm on beautiful Rödön. Take the opportunity to hike to Tibrandshögen, Undromskogen and Vikekärret. Byhuset on Rödön is within cycling distance of Östersund, via Frösön and Rödöbron.

Vemdalen Open Air Museum

National Day, Midsummer, Craft and Market Days in the summer with flatbread baking, weaving, blacksmithing and a play yard for younger visitors. Vemdalen Local History Museum is located in Vemdalen village.

Gamla Lanthandeln, Krokom

Step into a country store from the time when the railway came to Krokom. Nostalgic items for sale, a café and crafts including food crafts from the region. If you’re lucky, the owner will sing a song in Jämtland during your visit. The Gamla Lanthandeln is located by the church in the center of Krokom.

Muskox Center, Funäsfjällen

Stand face to face with a prehistoric animal … with a secure fence between you… The guides talk about muskox in general and the different animals in the enclosure’s characteristics. Most years there are small calves that you can also follow via social media. The Muskox Center is located in Tännäs in Funäsfjällen.

Frösö View Tower, Östersund

Wonderful views of Östersund, Brunflobygden, Storsjöbygden, Storsjön’s archipelago, Oviksfjällen and Åreskutan. Café on the ground floor of the observation tower, which is located at the highest point on Frösöberget.

Glösa rock carvings, Krokom

You can’t get any closer to the Stone Age people than this. Here they actually sat and knocked moose into the rocks by the stream. Exhibitions show a reconstruction of a Stone Age hut and exhibitions show how they traveled and thoughts about ancient beliefs. The St. Olavs Trail passes Glösa rock carvings and there are also shorter hiking trails on a Pre-history theme or up to Bräckeberget and Bröllopsstenen for an incomparable view of the Alsen region. Glösa is located by Alsensjön between Nälden and Mörsil.

Frostviken Nature Information, Gäddede

A taste of nature and culture in the Frostviksfjällen in beautiful exhibitions in connection with the Gäddede tourist information and library. Playground and mountain garden outside the exhibition. The Nature Information of Frostviken is centrally located in Gäddede.

Frostviken Ceramics

At Bränna farm with a view of Ströms Vattudal, ceramics are created with inspiration from the landscape; pots, bowls and cups with colors borrowed from the Frostvik mountains. Frostviken Keramik is located between Hällingsåfallet and Gäddede along Vildmarksvägen.

Hoverbergsgrottan, Södra Storsjöbygden

Scandinavia’s deepest gorge cave with exciting lighting is located in Hoverberg outside Svenstavik. On Hoverberget there are several hiking trails towards Bergs Hembygdsgård, the Café on the top and further to the so-called Rämnan, a crack in the rock that provides conditions for special vegetation. At Hoverbergsgrottan there is a kiosk and a small campsite.

Ljungdalen’s handicrafts with Café

Genuine handicrafts from the Ljungdal mountains and a nice café in the middle of central Ljungdalen. Ljungdalen is also the starting point for mountain hiking to Helags mountain station and further into Jämtland Härjedalen’s mountain world with a system of overnight cabins via the Swedish Tourist Association.

Klövsjö hembygdsgård

Of course, one of Sweden’s most beautifully situated villages has a first-class hembygdsgård. Tomtan is the name of the farm with houses from the past, regular flatbread baking, children’s activities and events and tourist information. The farm is located in the middle of the village of Klövsjö with a view of the alpine resort in Destination Vemdalen.

Mus-Olles Museum, Krokom

Per-Olof Nilsson was amazed by everything in the world that could be collected. Bird eggs, perfume bottles, stones, stamps, packaging and everyday objects. He decorated his own home into a museum and charged admission for tours when air and well guests came to Ytterån by railway from the 1880s. He lived simply in order to collect money to expand his collection and build storage systems. There is a café at Mus-Olles Museum and there are restaurants in the village Ytterån.

Sommarhagen, Östersund

On Frösön, with a view of Storsjön and the Oviksfjällen mountains, lies the composer Wilhelm Peterson-Berger’s dream home from 1914. The house was designed by the composer himself and exudes national romanticism combined with Art Nouveau. Listen to his beautiful music such as Frösöblomster and Intåg i Sommarhagen during the tour. Then take the peaceful hiking trail further up towards Frösö church and further west towards Frösö homestead with an observation tower, Stocke Titt.

Arvemuseet Heritage Museum, Storsjöbygden

Feel the smell of sawdust, oil and tar and hear the sound of the steam whistle. The Heritage Museum in Arvesund in western Storsjöbygden reflects the development during the most expansive time in human history, from self-sufficiency to today’s high-tech society with the help of environments and the objects that came and made life easier at that time. The association that runs the Arvemuseet museum has a steamboat, S/S Östersund, for both its own tours and tours on request.

Krångede Power Plant Museum

Step inside the velvet curtains of 1930s Krångede. Experience what it was like to work under the working conditions of the 1930s for water tankers, rock breakers and divers in built-up environments, films and pictures on the museum’s three floors. Thanks to their work, Sweden received enough energy to produce electricity for a large part of Sweden. For anyone with a child’s mind, there is a play area on the theme of hydropower in the museum yard. Krångede Museum is east of Östersund.

Hotings Car Museum

Ivars Car Museum has almost a hundred cars and about forty motorcycles, model cars and other motor-related material, which makes the museum one of Europe’s finest and largest. Across the road at Hotings camping there is also an exhibition about the prehistory of the area.
